IGBMVSSK is set up as a showcase project to inspire similar ventures by rural womenfolk elsewhere in the country as they strive for economic empowerment. IGBMVSSK has several "first's" to its credit.

1. First fully women owned sugar cooperative factory in the world.

2. First project to implement the 'Policy on Women' declared by the Government of Maharashtra.

3. First project to have tied up with overseas organisations for developing sugarcane crop using drip irrigation technology.

4. First women's factory to bring into existence the concept of Rural Society based on Agro-industry.

5. First women's cooperative that educates and trains women to use modern technique for sugarcane cultivation.

6. First project that provides self-employment to female farmers and employment to skilled & unskilled women in rural areas.
